I have always looked back fondly at my childhood in Zambia. This picture was taken in 1989 before we moved to Kenya in 1990. Even though we lived in a socialist country, with basic goods scarce, and as we transitioned to democracy, attempted coups and riots common, life was good. I had (and still have) a loving family and was connected with my extended family in a way that has been lost due to the peripatetic Afropolitan lifestyle that evolved from 1990 onwards.
